ZV7L0528 MarriageMarriage was God’s answer for man’s deepest human need:

A union of life with one another. This kind of union takes deep enduring commitment to God and to each other.

Remember this kind of union is the total union of two lives on the spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical levels.

To have this type of union will not come from just getting married. There is a difference between “being united” and “unity”.

To be married you are united, but you are not necessarily in unity.

Let’s have a look at the unity that God has in Himself. Genesis 2:24 “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be one flesh.” (Authorised King James Version)

The Word ‘One‘ is the same word used of God Himself in Deuteronomy 6:4. ‘Hear O Israel: The Lord our God is One Lord.’

The Word ‘One’ speaks of composite unity (made up of distinct parts) as opposed to absolute unity. The scriptures reveal God to be the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We do not have three Gods but One. God, triune. Here is an illustration of the implications of this unity.

The triangle may be placed on any side, and the Father, Son and Holy Spirit labels moved to any position. It makes no difference for God is one. God is unity, but He is also diversity, e.g., The Holy Spirit did not die for us on the cross – the Son did.

The members of the trinity do have different roles yet they are united, One.
